国立大学が法人化した2004年頃を境に、大学教員の産学連携活動が教育・研究の利害と対立する場合の管理方法として、米国大学などで実施されてきた利益相反マネジメントが大学として検討されるようになった。日本でも医学系分野などを中心に、多くの大学で、教員の利益相反マネジメントの実践が試みられてきた。加えて最近では、大学法人自身が研究成果の事業化のための出資が可能になるなどの背景から、従来の教員個人レベルの利益相反マネジメントに加えて、組織レベルでの利益相反マネジメントも必要になってきている。
本セッションではこのような背景から、関心が高まっている利益相反マネジメントについて「個人レベル」から「組織レベル」までの射程で、どのような実践がもとめられるのかについて、利益相反マネジメントの長い経験を有する米国大学のゲストの基調講演、および有識者のパネル討論を行う。（本セッションは東京大学政策ビジョン研究センター、大学と社会研究ユニットの協力で開催いたします）
本セッションは第一部：基調講演と第二部：パネル討論より構成されます Ara Tahmassian, Ph.D., is the University Chief Research Compliance Officer. In this role, Dr. Tahmassian is broadly responsible for the oversight of the review, development, and implementation of policies related to research compliance activities across the University. Additionally, Dr. Tahmassian works toward the overall effort to manage potential risks at the University by integrating and coordinating the significant compliance requirements across the University. |

Prior to being named University Chief Research Compliance Officer at Harvard, Dr. Tahmassian was the Associate Vice President for Research Compliance at Boston University and Boston Medical Center, responsible for maintaining a research environment that promoted integrity and ethical behavior and that abided by the regulations and requirements established by the federal, state, and local funding agencies. Dr. Tahmassian also served as the Principal Investigator for the core BSL-3 select agent laboratory and as one of the Associate Directors of the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL) at the BU Medical Campus. Dr. Tahmassian holds a B.Sc. in nuclear engineering and a Ph.D. in radiobiology from Queen Mary College, London University, and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Sciences in Nuclear Medicine. |

Nahoko Ono is an associate with the Firm who was born in Japan, and who grew up there, in the US, and in Mexico. Ms. Ono is fluent in English and Japanese. Ms. Ono's practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property with an emphasis on client counseling, litigation and international licensing of patents and trademarks (mainly the U.S., Japan and Europe). Her experience includes extensive analytical and strategic consulting from the perspective of different countries. She served as an intern for former Chief Judge Randall R. Rader of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and has been working with Chief Judge Iimura of the IP High Court of Japan, assisting in his international speeches for more than 10 years. She was also a scholarship visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Germany. Because of her extensive knowledge of international IP issues, she will assume a position of an ABA-IPL Liaison to the US Bar JPO Committee. Her IP career was at one time centered in academia. She authored a number of publications and presentations both in English and Japanese, a few of which are listed below. She remains a senior researcher at the University of Tokyo Policy Alternatives Research Institute. Prior to her IP career, she served in the finance industry as a legal and compliance officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management Japan, and as a foreign exchange market dealer at the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ. |
