Career history

Dr. Ogi received her Ph.D. in Environmental Earth Science from the Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science, Hokkaido University. She specializes in meteorology and climatology. Prior to her current position, she worked at the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), the University of Washington (U.S.A.), and the University of Manitoba (Canada). She also has experience in meteorological observation in the Sea of Okhotsk, along the Amur River, in the Arctic Ocean, and on Greenland. Beginning with research on the relationship between sea ice formation in the Sea of Okhotsk and discharge from the Amur River, she has been engaged in studies on atmospheric circulation over the Arctic Ocean, sea ice variations in the Arctic Ocean, and elucidation of the mechanism of extreme weather events.

Responsibilities as a URA at Hokkaido University

Through university management, she does her utmost to use the knowledge at Hokkaido University to give back to local communities and society at large while promoting cutting-edge research and education in the world.

Self-promotion (free description)

Born and raised in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, I always wanted to eventually return to Hokkaido and work to contribute to this northernmost prefecture. I think fate was kind to allow me, with such aspirations, to work as a URA at Hokkaido University. I will do my best for my alma mater.

My goal as a university management staff member

As university management becomes increasing important, I take on new challenges while always considering the business management aspects. I think my work is similar to that of a researcher who performs research day in and day out without anybody knowing about it, but who is then elated to be the first in the world to learn the results of the research. I aim to be an “only one” URA to provide a specific service supporting the management of Hokkaido University to ensure its future prosperity.
